Off topic - Calgarian running for The Racers Group
Our local Porsche guru/racer is running for TRG, gotta say quite kool!
Sebring, Florida -- TRG’s Hima Maher qualified fourth in the 996 class today for tomorrow’s 45-minute IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge presented by Michelin race. Hima Maher of Calgary Alberta, Canada driving the number 66/TRG/Porsche 996 car qualified fourth in class with a time of 2:15.477. Coming back from an on track incident in yesterday’s final practice session where he was hit by an errant competitor, he was able to rebound and has a good starting position for the race. “In yesterday’s practice a fellow competitor spun in front of me exiting turn seven and got into my right front. The guys were able to get it back together, so the damage wasn’t too bad. I had only done about 19 laps prior to qualifying, but I have a good starting spot and the plan is to win.” “We took a little while to get the car right for Hima,” said TRG’s Kevin Buckler. “Then we had a spinning car take him out, which cost him valuable track time. There was a good bit of damage to the car, the crew worked on it most of the night and Hima rewarded them with a fourth place qualifying effort. He has really done a nice job to keep focused and with his great effort in qualifying he is ready to have a competitive race tomorrow, I am proud to have him as a part of our team.” The seven race IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge will traverse the country, visiting top racing facilities including Sebring, Mid-Ohio, Utah’s Miller Park, Road America, Mosport, Road Atlanta and finally Laguna Seca. The race includes two groups for identically prepared GT3 997 and 996 Cup cars. Round one of the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge will take the green flag at 3:30 p.m. EST for their 45-minute race on Friday, March 17th. Hima races, owns a local Porsche shop and yes sometimes works on cars, Go Hima Go!

Very cool! Does he own Regal Tuning? I have heard the name before..... Do you know his history in racing? Just wondering how a guy has gotten this far eventhough he lives so far away from the tracks, competition, teams, etc...

Tim,
Yes he own's Riegel, and Maher Racing. He's been racing along time, I think he started in Bikes. I don't quite know how he hooked up with TRG, as last year he was running in the Barber series (I think), but good for him. Before this he was driving a corvette in the TransAM series. He ended up finishing 13th due to someone clipping him, but Kevin Buckler's comments made it sound like he's in for the season. I'll see if I can dig up more info.
