Hmmm... I use both interchangeably. It's probably supposed to be Bil-SHtine.

Pass that link to most of the hosts and commentators on car shows, Chip Foose, Wayne Carini, Jay Leno flubs it and gets lazy once in a while.

Actually... Porsche should have a semi silent e on the end. Not overemphasized as just about everyone does.

This guy is quite good. Great website Pronunciation of porsche - how to pronounce porsche correctly.

I only pronounce it correctly when I say the rest of the sentence in German.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but I actually hate owning this brand of car because of the pronunciation police.

I didn't expect to have to learn a German accent when I bought this thing
Seriously though, it gets tiresome to the point that I won't even use the word in public anymore. If anyone asks I have an old sports car. When pressed, I have a 911. If they want more, I'll show a picture.

In Canada a Toyota sports car is a sell-eee-ka, while in the US it is a Sell-icka.
In North America versus Germany a 911 is a...nevermind. I probably won't even spell it right.

I'm sure that the next guy that corrects me will insist that I sell my car and leave the club.

How did this happen???

No...I think its actually "Beer Stein." You know...something that smooths out the bumps after (and sometimes before) about 5:00pm?

What a load of tosh! The pronunciation will vary within each country. The supposed 'correct' version of Hoegaarden in the video is a million miles away from how a Dutch person would pronounce it.

You're talking about foreign word pronunciation in another language (English). Just like other words absorbed from other languages, the way they are said becomes 'adjusted' to the language of the speaker.

We do not adopt a French pronunciation when we say 'amateur' or 'bureau'. Lancia is pronounced 'Lancha' in Italian so is that correct or not?

When in Rome....

Or a Beligian, since that's where Hoegaarden is brewed. Of course, there are those that argue (my French friends for example) that this is moot, since the Belgians don't have their own language.

I'm with Wayner - I drive a 911.

I hate when people correct the pronunciation of Porsche. The first thing that comes to mind is doo-sha.

Less talking and more driving!
