Light Show Under the Hood! New Wires?
I was changing out my air filter tonight and was getting a slight miss at idle. I kept the engine running, turned off every garage light and saw several blue arcs coming from a myriad of wires on both sides of the engine! I would'nt call it a Tampa Bay lightening storm, but it was from several sources. Occassionaly I would also hear a "tick" do wn toweard the distributor cap. Several of the wires are in contact with the valve covers. The wire set is over 5-years old and were aftermarket with Beru connectors. Certainly not OEM or braided covered.
Can I assume these are toast? Replace or re-adjust? Whats the rule on arcing ignition wires? Thanks Bob 73.5T 2.4/CIS ![]() |

Replace. There is really no good way to "fix" them. Try the Magnecor wires, you will like them.

Time for a change. You don't need the OE braided wires.

Is there any reason OE wires are so expensive? Most parts suppliers over here are asking £115 ($200) for a set. What is the difference between those and making a set up using the likes of these?
