993 Implant to early widebody trial-fitted: photos
Picture is worth a thousand words; here's 2k worth:
![]() In the above pictures, the blue tape is a target for sheetmetal massaging. The '95 intake is tall and requires a bit more room than the 3.2, which occupied the space, previously. I used a floor jack and a 2x4 and a metal rod for the "massage". For those who have done the 993 conversion and remember a bit about the DME specific wiring, your advice on this thread would be much appreciated: 993 conversion wiring help - 3 questions Doug

Nice work Doug and great writeup in Excellence. Which exhaust are you going to run? Im assuming another M & K with 993 heat exchangers.

Thanks guys! There are many worthy cars on this board! Post enough pics and one of their writers will find YOU!
Jon is on the money......I'll run another of Ben's M&K special exhausts! He's getting close to being ready with mine! Doug

Hi Doug, its looking great, you must be well chuffed.
Are you using your old 3.2 crossmember or the one that came with the 3.6? Have you considered using spacers on the rear engine mount to lower the motor a bit rather than hacking into your engine bay - the ones I used were just 1 inch chunks of alloy with a hole through the middle.

Doug another great project. What HP is the engine rated or what numbers are you trying to achieve? Keep the picture documentations coming.

Looks great!, I agree w/ Jevvy use spacers on the rear engine mounts to lower it in the chassis,

Jevvy & Bill-
Good thoughts and thanks for the comments. I had considered that myself, but wasn't sure of the final fitment until the tranny is bolted up. I'll plan for spacers. 78-911SC The engine has backdated cam towers, so I am running solid lifter web cam's 993 Supersport cams. That moves power up in the RPM band. I'd hope for 275 rwhp. Ted on this board got over 300 RWHP with a roughly similar setup, though he had headers and slightly different (but backdated) cams. thank you, Doug

The only down side of the spacers is that it can give the exhaust a sort of droopy drawers look, that was one of the resons I am a huge fan of custom welded pipes for the muffler.

I agree - I may have a solution, though. My early rear valence is not that large, which makes the problem more acute. However, I am working with Ben from M&K (a second time) and can mark up the exaust where I want the outlets (and inlets for that matter). With any luck, it will look similar to this:

Please tell us that you are not going to use SSIs on that

I have heard those #s, too! Just don't want to be overly optimistic. I think there are some extreme optimists when it comes to HP. I will definitely update once I've had the tuning and dyno work done. Maybe 8 weeks from now. Doug

No sir, about the SSIs.
I plan to run the 993 HEs and have the same muffler as before, but different inlets. I'm a wimp, but think heat might keep the wife interested in riding around in the car. If that dramatically limits power, I may explore different options. What HEs did the 993 RS (or factory RSRs) run? I assume they had heat and not larger diameter headers? Thanks for the kind words! Doug
