993 Valve Covers Leaking Help
The 1995 993 Cab has old valve cover leaking trouble. Besides the typical maintenance stuff (remove covers, clean, new gaskets). Any other tricks, like billet covers, use ?? sealer, etc.
TIA

Put the gaskets on dry. No sealer, torque to 10 ftlbs only. Anti-sieze on the screws really helps.
If it is your upper gaskets, you will need to remove the PS pump to get at the back screws. AFJ

There is one more thing to do.. That you vavle coverd to a machine shop and have them surfaced. I just had mine done. The cost was $10 each. It required .020 for the uppers and .010 for the lowers. That how warped they had become. No wonder they leak.

The 993 cam covers are plastic and quite durable. They use an o-ring channel to hold the rubber seal. Surfacing them will not do you any good.
Over time and with many heat cycles, the rubber seal loses its crush or installed height, if you will. Once this happens, oil leaks start. Most of the time, a new gasket or seal is needed, that is all. |
