Why is your year of 911 the best?

I was just laughing at the post "1988 911 Photos" where owners of 1987 Carerras were ribbing him that his car was *almost* as good as a pretty much identical '87!

But everybody knows that the 1989 is the best year of the 911. Here's why:

*Last year of the original 1965-style body. You can swap doors, decklids, and windows with a '65!

*Last year of the torsion-bar suspended, manual steering 911s.

*Last year when cushy, weight-adding doo-dads like 4wd, automatic trans, automatic climate control, airbags, and power steering were not available (or mandatory).

*Last year of the Fuchs wheels.

*Only year that 8x16" rear Fuchs were standard.

*Last year of old fashioned, hand-built, non-robotic assembly at the Porsche factory. The 964 911s took 35% less labor to build, and were built on an entirely different (new) assembly line.

*Last year of the bulletproof 3.2 engine.

Why do you think your year of 911 is the best?

1973 was the last year the entire 911 line consisted of sports cars instead of GTs and sports car wannabes.

Nope, '88 was the last "best" year. Think about it, the guys building the '89's know it's over, so they're focused on where they're gonna be next year, they've started getting short-timers attitude, etc. The parts just get slapped together, no attention to detail, and maybe even some disgruntled efforts go into some of the '89's. No, 1988 they were optimistic, still full of excitement about the cars, they were putting everything they had into it.

78 is the best year by far..............for one reason only, It is the one that I own.

While I may lust after or prefer other cars or years, my 78 is the one that my key fits into and starts!

Someone speak up for the 993. Not my favorite, but a hell of a car. It has to rate somewhere here because of the last years of the air cooling.

Good point on the '77. Good point on the '4-door.

This is gonna be a tough one.

1987 of course. First year of the G-50. Every new owner was stoked they didn't buy that 86' demo on the dealer lot. By 1988 it was old news and you weren't first anymore.
