What's this test port for?
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1142742817.jpg
Hey guys I haven't read anything about this item in the pic, is it a test port of some sort? Thanks Bob |
I think that is for the TDC reference sensor.
|
Like Greg said, it goes to a TDC sensor. That TDC sensor is not connected to anything else and I've never seen a diagnostic that used it. I think it is what racers would call "extra weight". :D

Thanks Chris and Greg, I think I'll leave the extra weight since I'm not a racer. Would it be used for valve ajustment or timming maybe??
Whatever, just thought maybe I was missing something. Thanks |
Hey guys - I'm having 3.2 starting issues (http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/277679-stranded-dme-ignition-guru-help-needed.html) and suspect my TDC/Reference sensor - are you saying I can test the sensor using this port? I thought I had to go to the 3-connector harness near the blower motor where it's wired in.
|
It must have an intended use or Porsche wouldn't have put it there. Is it also on the 3.0 or turbo engines?
|
I was just searching some more in the archives and ChrisBennet commented in other threads that it is actually a third sensor, not to be confused with either of the two pertinent flywheel sensors (reference position and speed) and that it's never used (only for diagnostics).
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=245180&highlight=flywhe el+and+sensor Of course it's only $50 as opposed to the $130 for either of the ones you actually need! D'oh!!! |
Good question Bob. I don't mean to hijack, but:
Can contact closure be seen here at TDC whilst manually rotating the motor? |
