8x15 Fuchs w/ Date Stamp of 12/73 = 911 RS?

I just took off the 8x15s from my new 1970 911E and noticed that they have a date stamp of 1273 = Dec 1973
Other than the the RS, what cars would have used 1973 date staped Fuchs of this size?

Whoever had the car earlier in it's life put in some decent work - for once I don't hate the previous owner!

So far the list of interesting mods I've discovered include:
1970 2.2 911S Engine w/ Webers and Correct 7300 RPM Tach
1970 911S Factory Front oil cooler and rear thermostat
Aluminum Front Crossmember
Aluminum Rear Trailing Arms
S Calipers
Steel RS Rear Flares
Steel S Front Bumper

7 & 8 x 15 Fuchs

They could have been intended for the '74 Carrera either the csi US or mfi ROW version which also used the 7 & 8x 15 wheels

The 12 means 12th week of the year, not month.

Hmm - the plot thickens a bit - One of the 7x15s is dated 6 72

Feb. of 72 would be appropriate for a 73 model year.

Feb 72 is well into the 2nd half of the 1972 model year.

The build date on the rim (week/year) has not much to do with the assembly date of te car.
A rim built by Fuchs would/could have been in storage at the Fuchs factory for a while, then at the Porsche factory for a while.
Any rim that has a build date that antedates any car can be the original rim on that particular car.
For the 8", if it has an early '72 build date, it was either on an RS (the only street car at that time that used 7" and 8" rims), or on a race program as a spare or on a car. In any case an early 8" that takes a 3-prong center cap is special.

Do any fellow Pelicans know the estimated current market value for a pair of early 8x15 Fuchs that take the 3 prong center cap and have date codes of 1/73?

Didn't RS's come with 6's and 7's? I was under the impression that 7's and 8's were owner improvements, and Porsche didn't actually have a car with an 8" option until 1974, or even later.

Yes, that was the base wheel for 2.7RS w/ skinny 185/70 & 215/60, Pirelli CN36 tires, but 7 & 8 were options w/ the same rubber.

8 were option starting 04.1973 on the RS.

Those are very early 8" Fuchs and very rare. I have a set of 1/73 on my RS that were put there by the original owner soon after delivery of the car. When I sent them to Harvey Weidman for refinishing he said that he has only seen a handful of 1/73, or earlier, 8" Fuchs.

I don't know what to tell you as far as value I would call up Harvey and ask him for an idea of what they are worth. He has customers that are looking for certain date coded wheels for restoration purposes.

BTW the first # is the month of production not the week as was mentioned previously. Later Fuchs do show the week of production but not ones from this time period.

OK, I've got a call in to Harvey about the pair of 8x15 wheels. I also did some searching around to see if I could find previous sales info on early date code 8x15 Fuchs, which I did not.

I'm wondering if a pair of 1/73 Fuchs in good condition are worth $800 - $1000. These have polished lips, black centers, no cracks, straight and true.

I do know that you can buy a whole set of late 7x8x15 Fuchs for $800-$1000 but these are late Fuchs, not early Fuchs.

I'd say easily, probably more. 4.5x15s which I were to hazzard not as rare run $500-up each.

I'd buy em for that kind of money.

7", 8", & 9" x 15" Fuchs were available in the fall of 1971 for 'sporting' purposes use of the '72 models, in the 'Best. Nr. 6801.14 Spare Parts Catalog ... Typ 911S Model 72 competition type' dated November 1971!

The '71 8" Fuchs would have been used on the 911ST cars. The small hole 8" Fuchs were made into the late summer of '73.

It turns out the 8x15 Fuchs with the date code of 1/73 have a 70mm id center bore. I believe this is the later size center bore which accepts the push in caps, not the 3-prong caps, correct?

I don't know if the later center bore size affects value too much since they are still 1/73 wheels.

Well in my case, the point of the early 8X15 IS the small center ring... Call it vanity, but it "makes" the wheel.
They will stil have special value for the resto crowd, but not for the showoff people like me
