It is a long story, lets just say I was very very lucky, I was a window dresser by trade (ouch I can imagine the jibes that you guys will send me now) and at middle age I land my dream job as an aircraft museum manager.

and now I have that 911 I always wanted and a lovely young blonde wife to ride around in it with........life is good and I recognise it.

what a job! do you get to go out on "DIGS" to recover old aircraft? ie. first on scene in 60 years? i was looking at my dads battalion archives. i cant bend the binding or it will break so scanning them is risky at best. figure out way for me to get these to you. like i had mentioned in PM lots of cool nose art, ID numbers.basically documents their troop transport leaving san fran. hawaii-midway-biak,new guinea, luzon. their job was to follow assault troops under fire and build airstrip asap even though area wasnt secured. lots of snipers, human wave banzai attacks , and even a couple tank intrusions, air attacks. this could be of some help on ID of aircraft or some really cool pics to display. majority of planes were shuttled to these airstrips from australia. it was really evident that a lot of the planes were in bad shape from the get-go, evidenced by lots of sheet metal patch work done on them.

i only have a underwater digital in case, and both of my nikonos. a NIK IV and NIK V w/strobe. but my friend in houston owns nikonosrepair.com. his name is bob warkington and he is a full blown texas redneck nutcase and i think he could steer me towards a high resolution camera. will check on this and get back to you with these. its the least i can do for some people that did so much and gave so much and most people have forgotten their efforts. most people cant even comprehend their sacrifices. biak and new guinea were nasty nasty battles, ie ask any aussie vets about stanley ridge!!!! my dad went a month one time w/out a shower due to combat conditions. when they did finally get a shower, not 5 minutes after he got out, a jap bomber came thru strafing and dropping 500 pounders. one nailed his tent wasting evrything he had, and as he was running for cover he dove into a putrid rain/mud filled foxhole!!!! he was pissed!!!!! will start the ball rolling on this w/bob and see what i can come with. my dad always told me that of all the places he ever went, australia and new zealand are a must see must do in my life! so with my present job situation i could take a month or 2 off and do it right! i just got to stop my addiction of shoveling mass quanties of cash into my porsche! i just cant help myself!

When I was flying Army Choppers around northern Australia I saw a number of B24 Liberator wrecks in remote locations. There's one embedded in the top of Hinchenbrook Island halfway between Townsville and Cairns and I saw another's engine protruding from a coral atoll 60km east of Cooktown.

have quite a few B-24 pics on metal landing strip matting/take-offs/landings/crashes on strip. since im a military buff from that era since i was a kid, i would bet that alot of these B-24's were hand me downs from european theatre due to condition, and the fact alot had nazi swazstikas and u-boat emblems, painted on nose. they were in bad shape! the B-26 maurauders that were turned into flying gun ships with many .50 cals in nose for ship strafing missions were in abundance also. will get on this today via e-mail to houston texass and get bob working on this. seeya and good luck putting your porsche back together "BACKWARDS" LOL! had to throw that one in!

thats only because we are separated by an ocean. if we were not we would be over at your house everynight drinking YOUR BEER and eating YOUR FOOD and driving you NUTS!!!!!! be glad..........very GLAD of your geographical barrier! the next thing that would happen we would con you into making your car into dedicated RACE CAR! and then you would be divorced/out of money/beer/food but on the plus side you would have a trophy, a smile on your face and of course..............US! LOL!!!!!! remember racing and marriage do not co-habitate w/one another! just owning and working on your porsche is pushing the above equation..............when your done w/this insane project take your wife out for dinner and get her a nice gift for having patience with you!!!!!! keep me posted.

Hey Charles....

I took a trip with the kids in the 930 last weekend down to see saintz (3hr drive) and he was kind enough to let them into Fighter World (Jet Fighter Museum).

The kids had a ball while Mark and I talked and talked about our P-Cars. This was really cool for me because I used to be a pilot at one of the F18 Squadrons at the base where Fighter World is located.

rotor head now i know why you have a turbo!!!!!!!!! since being a jet jockey the need for speed is daily thing for you now! were you flying off an aussie carrier also? or just land based? well i would do anything to get down under for a month or two of flat out 4-5 tank dives a day scuba diving until i grew gills or "whitey" scared hell out of me. being an avid diver for 31 years in landlocked arizona has me always dreaming about the south pacific! having gone to the smithsonian aviation museum, pima air museum, champlin air museum etc. and working in aerospace machining all my life makes me beeline to any collection of war birds! to both of you aviation buffs, i talked to my friend in houston-nikonosrepair and he said best bet for getting these rare ww II photos in your hands will take a 5-meg camera which i dont have. so will find someone and start the arduous process of saving these before book rots. glad your ahead of schedule on putting the steering wheel on the "WRONG SIDE" LOL! did you ever think of leaving it stock and just adding steering wheel and making it into a "TRAINER"????????? LOL! have a great day. yell if you need any parts that pelican doesnt have!
