Jevvy is right....grab that good deal on the engine, the other parts arn't involved in the conversion... then buy your conversion 'kit' from Steve....

Could the difference be in a street vs track application? Not sure if your car is tracked often or not. Maybe Timmins made this recommendation to me because he knew it was a dedicated track car?

I would think the load on the pump would be very different in a track application. I think the experience I had with my 3.0L pump failing with a 3.2L engine on the same turn nearly every time but behaving perfectly fine elsewhere is a great example.

Also consider that Porsche decided to change pumps when the engine got bigger. It would have been more expensive for them to make this change versus using the old version and its something consumers wouldn't pay a premium for. It was added cost for the factory with no perceivable benefit to the customer. My hunch is they also thought the 3.0L pump was not a good choice for 3.2L engines (and larger) and needed to be changed.

Bill is right most of the time and I am a big fan, but I would rather make the cheap upgrade and never have to worry about it. :)

Gary - You could keep your old pump and swap is back in when you put the 3.0L in. Its and easy DIY job that takes less than an hour to complete.

Yep, fuel pump isn't a big deal. I guess it's a case of long distance confusion where my expectations, when I buy a complete engine to be dropped out of a wreck, is that I get a complete engine as it is removed. I did specifically ask for the DME and harness, and offered to pay extra for the starter (as on ST's FAQ site it said I needed it). Those items aren't issues.

This is a 91 engine W/O head gaskets on top of it.

The starter is a non-issue; it's the same as a VW autostick bug starter.

Understand about the starter... thanks. Also, Steve Timmons has written me several times since my 1st post and has been great.

(edit) Just heard from Patrick Motorsports also.

:D

I've been using my '77 fuel pump for two years now, and haven't had any problems on the street, autocrosses, or track. Given this experience, I concur with Bill.
