Cleaning Weber Carbs - Float Problem

Howdy All,

I had read many posts around cleaning your carbs. I figured it was a good thing to do so I bought 6 cans of carb cleaner and dragged out my air compressor and went to town. I cleaned all the jets, passages, etc and was really feeling great about the job I was doing. It was spotless and I was ready to take it for a ride... It didn't run any better. I decided there was something else going wrong and decided to take the car to a local Mechanic. He went through it all and called me this evening and told me my floats were crushed. I about spit out my teeth. They were perfect when I took them apart and did my 18 MM measuring etc. He told me to order some new ones and he would drop them in for me. I called PMO and was talking to Richard and he explained that its a common issue. That people end up blowing compressed air down the top hole and it crushes the small fragile floats in no time at all.

The lesson here is that when cleaning your carbs, DO NOT SHOOT AIR INTO ANY HOLE THAT IS CONNECTED TO THE FLOAT AREA!

Eric
