Direct Fire Ignition possible with '84 thru '88 Carrera series?

I just bought a direct fire ignition from DelTeq for my other car ('94 Corvette) that only uses the optical trigger in the existing distributor to send info. to a new add-on controller. The rotor and cap don't serve any purpose anymore. Distribution or sequencing of the 4 new coils is controlled by the add-on unit. My question is why can't the same thing be done for the Porsche Carrera '84 thru '88? Don't our cars have two sensors reading crank speed and position? We may have to retain the distributor for some reason, I'm not an expert about any of this but is the possibilty there? Imagine, never having to replace worn distributor caps and rotors because they no longer distribute. Better timing precision, and spark.

But our Motronic crank speed and position sensors are variable reluctance transducers (VRT) where as GM uses Hall effect switches for their cam and crank position...totally different signal outputs.

You could use An Electromotive HPX unit. A trigger wheel would need to be added to the crank pulley and a sensor bracket to the cases then you would have a complete stand alone system with no dizzy. These are typically used on carburated cars I doubt it would be worth the effort and expense on a motronic (pretty sophisticated) equipped engine, but it could be done.
regards,
Phil
