Question A/C probe question

Question regarding the "probe" that goes into the evaporator case. Do you insert it so it sits next to the evaporator, or so it goes into the fins on the evaporator?

I've searched, but have not found the answer.

Wedge in between the fins about half way up the face.

Thanks Jim,

I'm wedging, but it does not want to go all the way in. I've tried different locations for about an hour. The best I can do is get it so there is about an inch hanging out.

What's the secret? Does the evaporator box need to be outside the smuggler box?

It doesn't have to fully go in; all it needs is good contact with the fins, to be wedged enough to stay put and to allow any cover or panel to fit over it.

Thanks again Jim,

Although I didn't have to remove the box, I did. I just needed to know what ithe probe was hung up on. After all, it was in there before...

What I found was part of the fin inside the evaporator had folded over, limiting how far the sheath would go in. After carefully verifying I wasn't going to puncture a tube, I forced the fin over. The evaporator box is now back together WITH the sheath installed.

Tomorrow I'll reinstall the evaportaor.
