Boge bilstein mystery

Just curious about a few strut insert things. First, I know some bilsteins can be used for Boge struts, is it possible to use Boges with a Bilstein Strut Tower (Casing whatever it's called)? I don't think so but I thought I would ask those more in the know.

A friend of mine has a 80 SC that from looking under the wheel wells, appears to have boges in the front (black casing) and bilsteins in the rear (green casings). Do people often do this combination? Is this a problem? Why if so?

I guess we won't know if there are bilsteins up front until we crack the front open.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

David

David,

I own a Carrera, but here's my $0.02. On my car, I bought it with stock Boges up front and Bilsteins in the rear, courtesy of a PO.

I changed out the front to Bilstein inserts in Boge housings. On my application, you CAN clearly see the Bilsteins in the front as they are now the top 1/2 of my assembly, green

Don't confuse a Bilstein insert inside a Boge housing....with a full-blown Bilstein strut assembly.......

It *is* possible to have Bilstein ( hydraulics as it were)...inside a Boge housing...would be hard to tell from the outside.

Hey Wil,

Maybe because I have the external threads, my set up is different?

On mine, it is clearly top half Bilstein screwed onto the bottom half Boge. insert is Bilstein of course.......

Wish I had a picture handy.

No....Boges ( lower half) can be either external thread or internal thread...look for black color and "Boge" name and parts numbers on the lower portion...that would be Boge. What you have "inside" can be Boge / Koni / Bilstein / KYB / Tokiko.....

Agreed

Exactly what I have, Boge bottoms (black), Bilstein top (green) with Bilstein inserts.

The Bilstein inserts for my Boge struts came with new (green) dust covers - you might be able to tell from the dust covers what the inserts are.

OK. At home here, I seem to have just the shot. If you look closely, you can see the top half is green (Bilstein) and the bottom half is black (Boge). Inside is the Bilstein insert.

Hope this helps

Oh yeah, please disregard the cookies and ride height. I was rebuilding my brake system (note new lines and rotors ) and wanted to see what they would look like on the car.

******Black Screeen of Death !!! I'll look into that after dinner.*****

EFFING $hit!! I have uploaded several shots lately, don't know why this is going on? I tried to search for the "black screen" posting but couldn't find it in the archives.....

If you send me an email link, I can email it to you directly.

Sorry about that.

Chris Beers,
Your photo file size is to large. Set your resolution lower on your digital camera. No more than 2mb per photo.
BTW, it is just as ChrisBennet states.

Some guys "reuse" the old boge top dust cover when they put in the Bilstein inserts ( into Boge struts)....
