Electronic Door locks not working

My electronic door locks used to work fine ('86 Carrera). Then they just stopped. I can unlock both doors with the key, but can't lock them with the key. I also can't lock the driver side with the door open even by pushing on the knob or turning the little wheel. Center lock button on lower console doesn't do anything. Is it just the relay or something else? If it is the relay, where is it?

Try this link:

central locking failure...

I had the same problem. There is a multi piece rod with a ball cup connector which cracks. The rod is superceded bya one piece 964 part which replaces the assembly. It is cheap and available through our host. Sorry do not have the part number handy. Simply remove the door panel and look at the loc actuator and all will become obvious.

Hope this helps,

JP

I will find the part number tonight and post it in this thread so future searchers can find.

964.537.571.00 is the correct part and it replaces three former parts. Here is a picture of the part. The former clip is at the bottom left, and the attacment to the power lock actuator is at upper right.

When my 87 did this, the driver's side actuator had died. Although, when I would hit the lock button on the console, the pass. door would lock, then unlock in a second or so.
Replacing it got both locks working again.

I also can't lock the driver side with the door open even by pushing on the knob or turning the little wheel.

My driver's door still will not lock with the door open, though the passenger will, but this does not stop the rest of the locking mechanism from functioning.

Center lock button on lower console doesn't do anything. Is it just the relay or something else? If it is the relay, where is it?
Did you check the fuse box? When my door actuator died, it also melted the fuse, although at a cursory glance it was not obvious. Only when I went back and took the fuse out did I find that it has melted a small gap, maybe 0.5mm, in the strip that was not visible looking down at an angle at the fuse.

that rod connects the lock solenoid to the lock. They're known to break.

I'm w/ wholberg on that you probably have an electrical issue.
