2.7 runners are larger than the 2.4 911T version. The 2.4 ones are pretty small.

Lets all remember Ruff 1 asked will it be faster then a 3.2..So if it is now a poetic debate rather then fact NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooo I was trying to pt him in the right direction for fast rather then ill spent cash. rhyme that

thanks for all the help. this is the same mechanic that got my car running from a 15 year storage for under $1500 when other mechanics qouted me over $6000. he is very resonable with price and alway trys to save me money!

Its a slippery slope, when to stop with the cash..we all want the most for the buck....If your just trying to make it run, that's a different ans. then will it be fast as a3.2

set 2.7L P&C's (used) $500
Well perhaps. A good set of Mahle Nikasil 2.7Rs @ 8.5+:1 would be great. A set of worn Alusil at 8.0:1 … perhaps not. New rings are critical.

pair SC cams (used) $250
Why? First they won’t fit your cam housings. You can have your cams and rockers reconditioned and re-profiled.

set 2.7L intake (used) $200
Yes, it is substantially larger. You need to carefully evaluate all the 2.7 & 3.0 CIS systems. Size, compatibility, wiring, fuel plumbing and more are issues.

carrera tensioners (used) $400
This isn’t too far off what new costs. I would first see what is installed. You may have the update Turbo tensioners with the later idler arm. Rebuilding those tensioners with new seals and safety stops is easily as good as Carrera tensioners and far less cost.

carrera oil pump (used) $300
Unless there is something worn or defective with your 2.4 pump, I see no reason to change for a CIS street 911.

new bearing set (all) $300
I don’t see rod bolts and nuts or jackshaft bearings.
I don’t see crank inspection, polishing/grinding, rod inspection/reconditioning.

gasket set $200

chain set $125
I don’t see any provision for sprockets. New chain ramps are an absolute mist.

clutch $500
What kind, what parts? Will it need flywheel machining or replacement? I would like to see pressure plate, spring center disc, TO bearing, pilot bearing, flywheel bolts, clutch cover bolts and at least an input shaft “dam seal” and drain installed.

head work valves, porting $500
New guides, valves, seals? New intake (different length for the later CIS) & exhaust studs? I don’t see machining to fit the 90 mm cylinders.

case work-insert, open, deck, oil bypass $500
Exactly what do they propose? I assume “open” means to enlarge the cylinder spigot holes to fit the 90 mm cylinders. I don’t see new cylinder studs. What if it needs align bore? Is that included? There is a plug, spring and piston needed for the oil bypass.

set powdercoated sheet metal, fan $200
What is wrong with good cleaning, stripping and Plasticote?
I don’t see fresh high-temp paint for the heat exchangers.

25 hours re&re engine, clean, tear down, reassemble $1875
(at $75 an hour rate)

Reasonable shop rate. I would figure on some more time to confirm proper piston-to-head clearance and piston-to-valve clearance.

total---------------------------------------------------$5850
I would add 50% or more for contingencies.

I don’t see any normal service parts – Oil & filter, air & fuel filters, spark plugs, connectors, wires, cap & rotor, points, fan belt, cam oil hoses, axle bolts, gaskets and Schnorr washers, heater tubes

I don’t see oil cooler cleaning/testing or inspecting the engine oil thermostat function.

With a 2.7, you will need increased engine cooling (even in BC). The easiest is the 11-blade, 1.82:1 fan ratio but you will need to scout out the parts (245 mm fan, 134 mm crank pulley and hardware). The other alternative is an SC/Carrera front cooler.

There are going to be two other major issues:
Surprises – oops, there are these other parts that need replacing.
“While you are there” – our lists try and cover most but there will be more.

I recommend you carefully read through these two books available from our host:
Dempsey, Wayne How Rebuild & Modify Porsche 911 Engines, 2003, MBI, St. Paul, MN
and
Anderson, Bruce, Porsche 911 Performance handbook, 1996, MBI, Osceola, WI
Both have good lists of parts and procedures. Combine these two into your plan.

Best,
Grady
