Anybody import a lift from germany?
I am considering getting a lift for my 80SC. I have looked at the lifts is the US but I like some of the lifts available in Germany and other countries. With all the international members does anybody know how to import a lift to the US? I know nothing about customs, shipping, etc so any info would be appreciated.

Aiee! That would set you back a grip! Unless you get one with the oral sex attachment, I don't see how it would be worth it. On top of that, if you need parts or service, you're pretty much twisting in the wind.

Private import is certainly possible if you are willing to pay freight and duties. The "cheap" lifts in Germany will most probably come from the same manufacturer in China as the cheap lifts you can get here in the US, so check for lifts "Made in Germany". Also be aware that voltage is different. Some lifts might work with 220 Volts but most heavy duty lifts will run on 400 Volts.

The oral sex option was on the top list! My electricity bill would go sky high.
I know it would probably be too expensive, but I would still like to find out how to do the import, customs and duties. I am curious on what has to be done. With all the members here I thought there might be someone who has dealt with shipping something that large to the US. |

My wife works at the Port of Long Beach. Shipping is really no big deal. The freight forwarders do all the paper work. All you do is show up at the terminal when you are notified and bring ID and your end of the paperwork. Be prepared to wait a long time. It's not much different than common truck freight. |
