front suspension re-assembly sequence help
Have one side of the front suspension out, including a-arm, torsion bar, ball joint, and sway bar. Need to install new turbo tie rods tomorrow. after that I plan I plan to re-assembly the one side and then take a part the other side and rebuild that side. The struts are still in the car. I plan to:
1) install the ball joints to the a-arms while still off the car in a bench vise, Torque nut to 184 lb, light coat of ant-seize on nut 2) install the a-arm back in the car 3) insert the ball joint pin into bottom of strut, lightly greased 4) insert lightly greased wedge pin into ball joint pin through strut, torque nut to 16 lb 5) insert greased torsion bar into rear of a-arm, seating properly in a-arm 6) insert sway bar into new bushing on the a-arm(silglyde on bushing) 7) disassemble other side and reassemble according to above procedure, while inserting the sway bar into the a-arm bushing before installing a-arm to the car 8) install pre- measured tie rod ends to steering knuckles(lightly grease? or not) 9) install torsion bar adjusters, with a-arms hanging at lowest point, adjuster lever inserted at highest level against top stop. Insert greased adjusting screw and screw adjusting lever to previously marked level 10) Have alignment done Does this sound like a reasonable sequence. Any other input on this would be appreciated before I start tomorrow. Thanks Jerry Last edited by GMR911; 04-01-2006 at 06:50 AM.. |
