Post-storage revival = runs like crap

I haven't driven my 911 much since September; I hadn't even started it since some time in November or December.

This weekend I charged the battery and got it running, but it runs like crap. At idle, it misses horribly, and every few seconds it makes a backfire that sounds like a firecracker! I tried to drive it, but getting on the gas aggressively feels about the same as hitting the rev limiter. It backfires at speed, too.

It was full of race gas when I parked it. My guess is the fuel is breaking down and clogging the injectors. I have about 1/8 tank of fuel left. If I fill with fresh fuel and a couple bottles of techron, is it possible to rescusitate it without have to get all mechanical on it's ass?

Thom, I'd drain the fuel at the DS rail (3.2?), refill with fresh and new filter. Techron should be good but believe it or not I revived a friends car by adding.....Stabil. Not sure if it dissolved the crap but it worked.

I'd also check the plugs...kinda sounds like they're fouled.

It kinda sounds like you may have gotten some condensation in the tank. I'd put in some drigas first to see if that doesn't straighten it out. If not you may need to drain the fuel out and replace the fuel filter.

When you store the car (this isn't by far a complete list) always fill the tank and add stabil and drigas to it.

Also, hook up a float charger to it so in the spring you don't have to replace or recharge your battery.

Had this happen one time w/o storage - just got some crappy gas. Wound up needing to replace the fuel filter and several of the fuel injectors.

If you can, drain the gas, add some new gas with Techron and replace the fuel filter. If that doesn't solve it, pull one or two of your injectors to check the spray pattern.

Yes, I 'stored' it incorrectly. I didn't actually intend to store it - I just pushed it out of the shop to make room to work on Hayden's car and the hardtop project; the next thing you know, it's April...
