Vitaloni Californian Will it fit?????

Wondering if a Vitaloni Californian mirror will bolt right up to 911 Flag mirror holes. Stud spacing looks to wide on the Vitaloni but hard to tell in the pictures. Anybody have experience with this?

Hi Jonathan,

The second page of this thread has some information about mounting these mirrors:

Types of mirrors

I found it to be "non-trivial" (a term one of my engineering professors used to use).

The holes on the door are much bigger than the mounts on the mirrors. So you either need to fill the holes on the door and do the associated bodywork/paint, or you need to make a bracket big enough to cover the holes. I chose to make a bracket out of metal and cover the holes. Mounting the bracket can be done in a variety of ways. I chose to weld a piece of metal behind the bracket, and then tapped holes in it to screw down the bracket.

Note: these mirrors are much smaller than the OEM mirrors, so mounting them at the proper angle is critical to being able to see correctly. I'm still not quite happy with mine and will probably rework these once more before I'm satisfied.

Good luck,
Martin

The mounting holes are offset differently than the Porsche mirrors.

I had the old mirror holes filled at the bodyshop on mine and then redrilled the mounting holes, using the mirror base gasket as a drill guide. I drilled through the inner and outer layers of the door from the outside, using the drill guide.

From the inside, I had to open up the holes through the inner metal part of the door to gain access for a nyloc-nut (and socket) which locked the mounting bolts in place. The diameter necessary for the socket to access is much larger than for the mounting bolts (from the outside).

The process was non trivial. Mine is mounted using the stock base, though, without the larger plate shown in Colorado's solution.

Martin, are you having any problems with vibration?

I tried some California's on anther car and I could barely see anything due to the vibration.

Oh, yea....and then there's the vibration. I ground down the mirror shaft piece that fits into the bracket so it would accomodate 2 "teethed" lockwashers and then tightened the crap out of the adjustment screw.

That seems to have fixed it for now, anyway.
