New Fuchs and Tires--WOW!

OK...so it's not Black Beauty... but it's mine! After much deliberation and input from this BB, I decided to forego the old 15x6"ers that dated back to Sept 76 when the car was built and go w/ 16x7s. The selection of available rubber is far greater . I now have 205/50 Fuzion ZRi W rateds all around. The grip is amazing. Gone is the old squishiness of the Pirelli balloons, and yet the ride quality has not suffered one bit. Acceleration is improved, and overall the car feels lighter and more nimble. And I think it looks a lot better too. Now to put those 6mm spacers on the rears to get them a little closer to the arches...

Paul Porsche,

I always like the 15 inch look on a lowered impact bumper car. Your's looks great! Good choice of wheel.

Cheers,

Paul,
Your car looks very good, kudos to you.

I have a mid year too ('76) and I prefer the original 15x6's. I got rid of the 16x6 & 7's that came on it to go back for the original/earlier look - especially on my car with the bright window trim. But I have also backdated the bumperettes, the side mirror to stainless, and gone to a metal grill over the original plastic one too. Your car is going for the SC look, correct? Have you thought about blacking out your window trim to match those wheels?

Thanks a lot, guys.

Dan,

I can't say I'm going for any particular look per se. As you can see from both the pix and the description, the car is somewhat of a mongrel, incl a long stroke 3.2 in a narrow body. That's one reason why I deleted the badge from the rear deck.

While I get what you have been doing, which sounds great, I think the bright rim around the wheel gives me just enough brightness to go w/ the bright window trim and the slightly tinted glass. And I really prefer the dish of the 7s over the flat 6s. The better rubber choices is a big plus, too.

Of course, in another 6 months...who knows? Maybe the paddles will be buffed out to revert to the earlier look. That's part of the fun of these cars.

Dan and Paul you guys both make me think a mid-year is an option if i can't find the right long hood!

I wonder if glass bumpers front and rear (to ditch the accordians) would screw up the look?

Paul that stance is absolutely perfect!!! A cars' look is 70% wheel choice and how well the wheel/tire combo fills the arches and 30% the rest of the body.

WOW!

Paul, your 911 looks awsome. I think you have hit a homerun with that car and I would leave it just the way it sits--Beautiful!

I bet your relatively light 911 hauls a$$ with a 3.2 in it.

Enjoy.

Hey Paul, looks great! I love the setting for those shots - is that your cottage?

Hopefully I'll be following in your footsteps next winter (the transplant, not the wheels!).

Thanks again, guys. I feel like a proud papa (and @ my age!)

Berettafan,

I think mid years make a much better choice than is usually stated here and elsewhere, especially if the engine has been or is about to be replaced or rebuilt. The CIS is easy to understand and work on, the cars are usually cheaper to buy, and the mid years are usually smog exempt . They have almost all of the advantages of the SCs but w/ less weight and fewer complications.

BTW I don't think losing the accordians would necessarily adversely affect the look. It's like anything...it's how you do it. I'm sure I've seen some on the BB, but I'm not sure what years.

Ryan,

The overall smaller dia of the new wheel/tire combo should give me quicker acceleration. Butt dyno also says so. I haven't done any "scientific" tests yet, though.

Mike,

Yes. The long stroke has great torque, especially w/ the SSIs.

Yellow. Great color. Makes me wish I had a garage to hold another 911 in yellow only this time a coupe.

Paul - great look! My car (75 Targa) is just coming out of the shop from being completely repainted over the winter. I bought a set of 16x7 Fuchs to replace my 15x6's as well and can't wait to see them - by the looks of your car I am going to be very happy!

I normally don't like yellow, but your car looks great! It is interesting how you can look at many cars of the same vintage but some will just look better than the others, due to ride height, wheels/tires, etc.
