Has anyone ever taken their stone guards off from rear wheel arches??

I need remove one of the black plastic stone guards that cover my rear wheel arch to get access to remove my broken rear torsion bar. Has anyone ever taken their originals off? Just wondering if I might find that it is going to damage the finish...

Has anyone ever just cut around the 'plug' (not proper term I am sure) to gain access this way? I am concerned over moister....

Any thoughts?

Cut around the plug.

Removing the whole guard would be a major PITA. If you do, I would assume that a heat gun or maybe hot soapy water would help, along with patience, patience, patience.

I agree. besides if the finish doesnt look perfect it will get recovered with a new stone guard right?

I just cut around the hole. Still looks good even with the semi circle missing.
I guess if you want to keep the look you could paint the torsion cover black while its out.

If you simply do this to remove the torsion bars..use a hair dryer on the lower-most portion and peel back...so the hole "hatch" is uncoverd and can be removed. Then reglue the bottom portion after your torsion-bar repair is done and the metal cover is back in-place. Don't take the whole black cover off.

I've replaced mine a few times. The cutting idea usually doesn't work out great. I leaves too many edges for dirt to get under and eventually you will have an edge lifting. Better to use a heat gun or hair drier and warm and pull the guard up and then replace. They actually come off pretty easy.

Thanks for your input. I was thinking the same things about cutting. I don't want to accidently cut into the paint or have lifting. I will let everyone know how it goes.

i was just there, the sticker on my car didnt stick to the uneven plugs that well anyways. i found that i could peel it up, easy and push the plug out. i ended up changing them out, and a hairdryer, warmed them up enough that it didnt mess up a thing yanking them off. amazing how new ones look way good, and waxed over ones, look like crap.
