Major Stupidity......(P car involved)

Hello everyone….

Well after backing into my Porsche with my other car (major stupidity) this past January. After countless searches for a shop that would do what I think is a good job, I took the car in yesterday to be fixed. They said that it should take about four days for the job to be complete. The job is not big, but you guys know how picky we P owners ca be. Anyway here are a before and during repair pictures……….

before

during repair

Seems to me you might have gotten an estimate from the paintless dent removal guys first. If your paint didn't crack they can do wonders.

I just had my wifes 6 month old car fixed this way. A deer ran into the side of it leaving several large dents. Looks like the day it came from the dealer, not a trace of damage. AND it only cost $167.00

Don't feel too bad. I put a bike rack on a shelf that I shouldn't have and of course it fell off and put several good size dents on the hood, door and fender. A few years later I tipped the tandem over onto the hood and dented it. And then while getting the road bike out of the back of the Targa I nailed the rear fender with the front fork and put a ding in the paint. I'm thinking of trashing all the bikes (seven at last count) in the garage and taking up some other sport.

A paintless dent guy could have removed that in his sleep on a Sunday afternoon...prolly for about $150. It would have been invisble, gone, nada...all done in your own garage while you watch and drink beer.

Why people break the paint for dents that don't have cracked paint I'll never know...

Nice color, looks like the same color as mine. Don't feel to stupid. I backed into my 911 with the wifes Tahoe TWICE in the same week.

Need a new center reflector and the lids a bit flat at the edge.

jhc, I tried that first and they said it was to big for them to fix. there is actually a small wrinckle in the upper part of the fender as well, so to the shop it went.

Brando, it was actually repaired ( sanded to bare metal, then tacked weld to pull the metal out) this wat they use as little filler as possible.

Question....by the pics I see that the damaged portion of the fender is being prepped/primed for a respray....

In my experience..if that's as far as the shop will go.....the new color will not "blend" properly where the old/new paint comes together. Often, you need to "blend" the entire rear quarters ( both) and the rear lid to blend properly. You then depend on an optical illusion to bring the "match line" up to a point that is not as obvious to the eye ( like the "B"-pillar...where it is "narrow").

Good luck !

Wil

Not sure where you took it for the opinion but if it was somewhere like Dent Wizard or one of the franchised national companies they would tell you that. They charge by the panel so for all that work on one panel they would say "nope can't do it".

There are a number of independant guys out there that could easily handle that - they take their time and can do magic. I have a guy that placed second in the national dent removal competition (yeah who knew there was one of these) he is a master. He showed me pics of his before's and after's - simply amazing what they can do wrinkles/creases etc. As long as the paint is not cracked or damaged.

Just as an FYI for the inevitable next time...

A while back my wife and I were looking for a good family car. We went to the Toyota dealer and saw this Camry. It had been in a hail storm and was dented Pretty bad. The car was white so it literally looked like a golf ball. The sales guy asked "if I can have all the dents taken out will you buy this car"? I said sure.
The Camry will be paid off this Fall.
It truly is amazing what they can do.

I'm with Wil, and one step further would be to fix any paint chips in the front (valance/bumper/hood). Did I say full repaint? Sorry buddy. I feel for you. We know how hard it is. Anyway that is all behind you.

Regards,

Did you see this thread: Paintless Dent Remover Coming To El Segundo Tomorrow 3-6-06? $25.00, what a bargain although driving to El Segundo from Cincinnati might cut into the savings a bit!

Why did they have to remove the engine lid grille and the right rear quarter glass?
