What's it worth? 1980 911SC Weissach

What’s it worth? Considering selling my 911. I’d appreciate your comments.

1980 911SC Weissach Special Edition
Platinum exterior / Doric Grey interior
1 of 400 Weissachs produced with front/rear spoilers, 15 x 7’s and 8’s, Bilstein sport shocks, sport seats, sunroof, black headliner.

152,xxx miles. I am the second owner. Some service records from PO, detailed records since I’ve owned.

I bought the car from the son of the original buyer (passed away). He told me that car had no accidents or repairs. I can’t tell for sure, but I think I can spot that some minor paint work was done on right rear corner. No panels replaced, though. With the engine out, I’ve been all over the inside of the bodywork with a fine tooth comb, and don’t see any sign of repairs.

Updates/repairs I have done;
New German leather seat covers from GAHH
New hydraulic chain tensioners
New Bridgestone SO3’s 205/55ZR15 front, 225/50ZR15 rear
New front brake pads and rotors
New front wheel bearings
Flushed brake fluid – ATE Super Blue installed
Swepco 201 in tranny
New Blaupunkt Heidelberg CD 51 radio/CD player
New shift bushings at shift lever and rod
New front and rear hood shocks
At 149,028 throw out bearing went bad. Pulled engine and did the following;
New Sachs Sport clutch kit (pressure plate and disc)
New flywheel
New t/o bearing
New oil breather hoses
New vacuum lines
New inner CV boots
New injector sleeves
New injector o-rings
New intake boots and gaskets
New airbox straps
New oil pressure switch
New throttle bushings on tranny and linkage
New oil cooler seals
New oil return tubes and seals
New heater hoses
New fuel filter
New engine compartment sound insulation
New oil t-stat seal
New spark plugs
Valve adjustment
New cap and rotor
New S hose
Recently serviced by Jimmy Deerling (Mobile Works East) – replaced auxiliary air regulator, set fuel mixture

Exterior condition is very good. Original paint is in good shape, with nice luster. Usual front end stone chips, a few scratches here and there, but overall very nice appearing. Interior is in exceptional shape. Dash (leather) is not cracked, original carpeting is great. New leather seat covers are gorgeous. Carpet piece behind driver is not original. Power windows, mirrors, and sunroof work fine. VDO clock is inop. AC needs recharge. Front rubber lip scraped.

Engine runs strong and is very responsive. Tranny shifts very well for a 915. Car handles great. Really a joy to drive.

Thanks for your input.

Don't sell it, drive it. That is what I am doing with mine (Weissach). All that stuff you have done is normal maintenance that a loving 911 owner would do. You want a number, maybe $13.5K. But it depends on what the buyer is willing to pay. You do not own a 911 for its monetary worth, unless you are fishing for insurance agreed value. Incidently I decide against SO3s th third time around for shoes on my Weissach, only 10K for a set of rears is just too damn quick.

wow...13.5k seems low for such a nice-looking car. sure it has higher miles, but 2-owner and looks like it's been well maintained. i'd say high teens.

Wow!
you have done so much.
Can't really tell you a price but a friend of mine has one.
If you want you can pm me and I will give your contact info to him.

He did a lot of ducumentation for his insurance for a truer coverage rather than blue book.

Knowing a bit about your car, I was thinking $15K. But after I read the specs and saw the recent pics, I'd say $17-18K. However I think you should ask $30K so you don't get any interest and are forced to keep it.

What kind of exhaust system is on it?

Beautiful car and great model. The mileage is always an issue especially when its getting up there. Many have said the 3.0 can go over 250K if maintained we, but when you consider a 8K+ rebuild, it starts to get dicey. You success with a higher price may be better enhanced if you took the car in and had a compression test/leak down test done to demonstrate the soundness of the motor. If the engine is tight and compression good, I certainly would not hestitate to ask in the mid to high teens. Weissachs are getting rare..........

Good luck
Bob

Rear end looks very low to me, but nice car. I would estimate mid teens as well, but geography plays a big part in this,

Very Sweet looking car. I love the red trim in the inetrior. I can't remember seeing that on other Weissachs.

$15,000 should be easy.

The red piping is part of the "special" interior. Mine is hidden under el cheapo seat covers.

I paid higher mid-teens for mine last year with 77K on it. Original paint, not original wheels or tail (but I would like to change it back). Third owner and have all of the service documants including original bill of sale and dealer's window stircker. I have been told by few people that I got a really good deal on it.

How do you like the undersized tires on it? I am considering going with those exact same tires on mine, but the diameter is about 1.5 inches less than stock!!

Yep the interior of the Weissach is what probably is the most special about these SCs, that piping is way they were delivered. The 7 & 8 15 inch Fuchs OEM on the Weissachs are the reason PCA stock SC club racers (F & G) can use 9" Fuchs (one inch larger than stock rule) which is a bit a of trivial. I drive mine as much as I can. I paid 10.5K with 82K miles for mine but it did come with a salvage title (theft recovery). I might add that the sport seats recovered in the picture do not appear to have as big of side bolsters as the originals. YMMV

While it is a nice touch, the Weissach does not seem to demand a huge premium. That said, you have a well maintained high mileage SC with 7s and 8s. If the Weissach adds a bit, 15k is also my guess. Everything else is not realistic, mainly because of the 150k miles. You may find the right buyer at higher than 15k, but it will take some patience. It all depends on how keen you are on selling. As a well known quantity to you, it will be worth more to you in your garage than 15k in the bank, that's for sure.

Cheers,

George

it seems the average guess here is mid-teens, but i still don't think i'd jump at the first offer for 15k.

Hold off for $20K. That model is indeed a "special" edition and will only go up in price over time. Look what's happening to the price of the pre-'74s.

Thanks for all of your replies. I appreciate the input. I've listed the car on ebay. Auction # xxxxxxxxxx.

New auction #4629403705. I had to end and then relist the auction due to technical problems with the large format pictures at ebay. New auction starts 4/7/06 at 7:00PM.

I have seen similar Weissachs go on Ebay for mid to high teens. Good luck with the sale.
