Talking Scored some H4's

So did I get a deal or not?? What do I look for when I receive them next week?

http://cm.ebay.com/cm/ck/1065-29392-2357-0?uid=106780708&site=0&ver=EOIBSA080805&lk=ItemDescriptionANDimage&Item=8054091700

There are for my '86 Carrera. Any installation tips?

Thanks,
Dan

Well, these might be a standard Euro headlamp (pre '78?) designed to accept an H4 bulb rather than the sealed beam units we got over here. Quite different from the Bosch H4s that many are upgrading to now. These will backdate the look of your '86 quite a bit. Price seems good, though....

The number on the Bosch box is for a Euro H4 911 631 113 00. However, the picture of what you are getting is not that. Back out if you can. Good luck, Kevin.

[The ebay item is for H4 headlights.

I thought that only Hela made the H4's that replace the sealed beam unit. Bosch H4's only come in the complete Euro assembly with the thin trim ring. The pictures do NOT show the correct euro H4's. I believe you have pretty good grounds for backing out. Good luck.

Definitely look like standard ice cream scoops with H4 7" replacements in them. Hella makes them... they're about $80-90 new including bulbs.

Thanks for all the feedback....

Even though they are not the true Euro H4's, will they be brighter than my current stock headlights?

They'll be brighter and the optical beam will be superior...just like the more expensive Bosch ( aero) H4's....

The lens pattern in the pic doesn't look to me like the German Hella H4 lens pattern either. Just looks like standard American sealed beam headlights in an American market sugar scoop housing.

I agree- I used to have US H4's & the lenses looked nothing like those (although I do think there are different manufacturers).

These could be regular sealed beams that someone put in the euro H4 boxes after upgrading to H4s.

I fell for the same H4 ruse on ebay back '99. Most likely these are some Hella knockoff from India with a funky name like Hartopo or something. They work but they ain't the real mccoy. I put them on my '72, and they are better than sealed beams.
YMMV

going rate is 250.00 for a pr of H4's with rings(both chrome and the narrow painted ones that mount over the chrome if you wish.

Add the sucros ? relay kit also while you are at it.

I have a 89 and have been undecided about going to the H4s. I don't really drive the car alot at night and I know that it is a slight PIA to install and the rings are prowne to pop off while driveing. I don't think they look all that diffrent SO What do ya think ???

On a careful re-read of the original post and ad....I think you got rooked.

Common convention is to use the words Hella H4 for the replacement of the USA lens style...using all the other original US hardware. "Bosch" H4 implies the aero look and these are much more expensive. I call "misrepresentation"...unless these are Bosch USA-spec H4's...yet another variant.

here's the real deal, and look closely at the front lens...says "H4" right in the middle of the glass..and the glass has the distinctive pie-shape fluting off to one side...yours doesn't have this. ---> converting US spec H4 to Euro H4?

To the poster who has an 89....yours comes with H5's...not very good...they look like Bosch aero H4's..but use a different plug.
