69 911 tranny question
I guy that works with me just bought a 69 911 targa . He thinks that it has a 2.0L in it. The problem is that the tranny is locked up. He looked on the tranny and found a number stamped on it that started with 914###### . It also had a VW logo stamped on it.
Was this the tranny that Porsche installed on this car or did someone do some mod's? What did this tranny from from? Thanks Rick

This is no doubt another victim of the “Simplified” differential used from late ’67 through ’71. The 914 casting is an easy replacement for the ’69 901. It might or might not have 901/911 internals.
Depending on the goals and budget it might be worthwhile to reinstall a proper type 901 transmission. Do a Pelican search on “Simplified differential.” You will find other Pelicans who have addressed this issue. Best, Grady
