915 Roar - TOB vs R&P
I have very little experience with the innerds of a manual transmission and need some assistance.
What does a faulty Throw Out Bearing look and sound like? How does this sound differ from a faulty R&P? Would a faulty R&P noise increase with vehicle speed while a faulty TOB noise would increase with RPMs? Thanks.

A bad ring and pinion would generally whine. The pitch will get higher as road speed increases and the amplitude (loudness) will vary a little with increased load. Other things can make these noises too (bearings, for example.)
A throw out bearing, or pilot bearing, should make noise when the clutch is disengaged. JR |
