Stubborn Fitting Prototipo
I am having a heck of a time trying to fit the Momo Prototipo adapter hub to the splines on my steering shaft. I have a 1987 Carrera. The Momo Hub adapter is part #4005-L231. I put a thin layer of grease on the hub splines and the shaft splines after to help things along. This did not seem to help much. I have been beating on the inside of the hub using a large deep socket and rubber mallet. I can get it to the point where there is a bout 3/4 of an inch to go and that is it.
My original wheel fits right on. It does not look as though I am damging the splines on the shaft or the recepter splines on the hub. Has anyone else run into this problem? Thanks. Mike |
I temporarily bolt the steering wheel to the adapter and then use the steering wheel as leverage to push it onto the splines.

I have heard of people using a triangle file to debur the hubs. I understand that it just requires a delicate touch.

Hey Bob - check the Early S board. Cornpanzer needs to talk to you! -- Curt

Hi, Mike,
Try putting a thin coat of wheel bearing grease on the hub and steering shaft splines. The last Momo I installed was tighter than usual, and this worked for me. |
Thanks all.
Jack, I tried Grease right off the bat and it is a no go. Bob, I am going to carefully file the slines on the Prototipo Hub. Thank you. Mike |
