little things about the 930...

A few questions about my '87 930...does anyone know

1) The automatic heater control in between the seats, is it supposed to illuminate when you turn your lights on? In the PET, it shows a light bulb in there, but I couldn't find one, or a socket for one..

2) My rear window wiper, when I shut it off, it stops when I turn the switch off, it doesn't go back to the parked position. Would that be my wiper motor that needs to be replaced?

Yes, there is a light bulb in there. If you remove the seat and the access panel on the sides (there are two - pick the side you prefer) will be readily accessible. There is a tiny bulb and socket - the bulb looks like it melted into a blob - never seen one like that before - that you can replace.

Have to say I didn't bother with mine when it burnt out.

Actually, the rear wiper is supposed to self-park. All of mine do.

Yes, it plugs into the top. It's right under the rotary knob but I'm afraid I didn't take a photo. I was trying to track down the handbrake wire (brown/white) and only noted the bulb because of it's odd shape.

One of those "Gee I'll replace that one day" observations.

BTW. What part of TO are you in? I lived in Mysterysaga for a number of years before relocating to Atlanta.

I'm in the beaches now. When I moved here from Montreal in 97, I moved into Missiassauga until 2004, then I wanted to live in the beach. Nice down here, I'm a sporty type, so the beach is perfect for me!

If it is supposed to self park, then maybe it's a conneciton? of maybe the motor?

Mark,

I've never had to fix one, so I'd suggest you take off the motor assembly and disaasemble it from the wiper arm, if there are no bad connections visible where the wires plug in. There will be some contact rings where the wiper arm makes and breaks circuits when the arm revolves and there is probably something wrong there. Perhaps they are dirty, or the arm doesn't make good contact with them for some reason.

The assembly is certainly interesting to say the least... I had a similar problem with my heater switch in-between my seats. Basically, as the motor rotates, the contacts are supposed to be all touching each other. As they rotate through the 'park position', the third contact which is connector 53a (hot at all times).

In essence, as the motor rotates through it's sequence, it is always 'hot' until in the park position. With your switch on, it provides power to the motor at all times.. when you turn it off, depending on where the motor is, the current keeps going to it from the live wire..

I'm horrible at explaining these things, but take hopefully these pictures I high-jacked from another thread will work.

Thanks for your advice though..I finally got around to looking at this. I think that everythign works on my car now as it should...

I think the wiper self parking issue relies on a relay in the rear engine on the left side. Mine didnt park and then I switched it out now works fine.

What bulb is the one you are talking about? The center climate control console? take a pic of what you are talking about.

the fuse is actually, as is the relay one of the sources for power to the motor. If the contacts are not touching, it will not self park.

As for the light, here is a shot (I took it from this board) of the automatic heater in-between the seats. According to the manual, it looks like it should be illuminated, and others have said that there is a light in there...

There is a light bulb in there. The part number is 900.631.132.90. It's a whopping 1.2 watts.
