3.6 conversion- top speed with stock 915??

I wonder what should be the top speed of my 1976 S with a 3.6 Vario engine.

I have a stock 915 on it.

How would the change of wheels/tires affect the reading on the speedometer? I have 295/35-18 in the rear and 225/40-18 on the front.

I am getting top speed reading of 130 miles, which seems kind of low, and I feel that I am going faster than that.

Thanks

it should be as my GPS had registered 155 while the speedo was past the 150 mark...this is redline in 5th. 18" wheels should get you even better than that.

I did some guessing from memory here, but at 6500rpm, you should have been going around 159 or so in 5th. I guessed at the 5th gear ratio (isn't it .82 for a '76 915?). I also used 26.13 for the diameter of your tires, but the actual rolling diameter might be a little less (leading a slower speed).

These figures are good approximations for a 915/44
