Question Clutch Feel, Typical?

I recently put in a new clutch in my 2.4l. It is the 915 gearbox. i made adjustments on the cable and on the shifter linkage on rear floorboard, and gotten it best I could. It is now much easier to get into 1st and second.... My question is what kind of normal "tension" do you typically see on this transmission to get it into gear. I mean, it isnt extremely slick (ie newer car). I would say I can "feel" it going into each gear, more so in 1st and 2nd. Typical or not??

Thanks...

Mitch

915's are never really called smooth shifters and a new clutch makes the tranny better but 1st to 2nd are notorious for requiring a little more force. I know many who have had to redo the syncro's for 1st and 2nd before the others.

As you said it is somewhat difficult to describe, but in general it is quite normal that the lower gears are a bit harder to synchronize especially when the tranny is cold. Once the tranny is warmed up it should shift fairly smooth, but still not as nice as many new transmissions. It helps to shift more slowly or of course you can double clutch. Also make sure to fully press down on the clutch pedal while shifting. Regarding clutch adjustment you certainly want to make sure that the clutch is fully disengaging with the pedal pressed down. Good indication is if you can engage reverse without a scratching noise from the tranny.

Does it feel like there is more side to side slop on one side than the others for any gear? If so, could be the coupler needs to be moved a tad. same for F to Rear.

Can you get anyone to drive your car that is familiar with 911s?

Seems to be more difficult to get into 1st moreso than 2nd. When cold it is definitely more difficult to "push" (not slide) into gear... typical also? Almost feels the same as before i changed the Clutch (going into first)
