Rev counter check when out of car?

Hi all, after a long search I found and bought a 2.4S rev counter on eBay. Now, unfortunately it fell down the stairs and I have no means of checking whether it still works because my car is in parts due to restoration.

Is there a way to check whether a rev counter works without attaching to the engine??

Thanks

Dennis

Dennis,

You can test the tach on a bench by building my 'junk box calibrator' ... and using it as a pulse source for checking the tach at 1200 rpm and 2400 rpm.

Excellent! I“ll take this diagram to my local electronics shop and see what they can do.

Many thanks

Early_S_Man, FMMI, but there seem to be quite some connectors on the tach. AFAIK, two are for the turning signal, but where do the others hook up to this diagram:
- “Output“ goes to signal in on the tach I guess, can you tell which one that is?
- any other link between tacho and this diagram I need to make?

I guess what I“m saying is that it would help me if the tacho is in this diagram as well.

Many thanks again!

Dennis
