HELP! 87 3.2 Motor doesn't start after hot, but when cool NO Problem???

Need Advice,
My motor which is stock, doesn't kick over at all when hot and shut off,
but when cold, engine starts fine??????
I went to Coachella this weekend, and when the motor was warm with normal oil temps etc. and I try to start the warm motor, it doesn't even kick over--
I left the car for several hours, and returned in the cool nite, and it started up immediately!
Is this a starter issue or selinoid that heats up and won't start, or the ignition switch, or vapor lock fromaccumilator?????
I tried the lights thinking maybe the battery was at fault, but lights are ok, and last nite when it happened the 2nd time, I had AAA jump it and it wouldn't even try to start--- all I hear is the fuel pump? noise and nothing after that....

Thanks in Advance!

Going to try the "hit the starter with a hammer" theory and jump start it to drive it to the shop for repairs..

Sounds like the solenoid. Same thing happened to me. I replaced it with a lt. wt. starter and haven't had any problems since. Takes about an hour to change out but greasy. Try this linkhttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PORSCHE-911-MINI-STARTER-ALSO-PORSCHE-9Vince

Also check your grounds.

Thanks for responses--- found same problem listed on forum...waiting for light weight starter off ebay-- spoke to Otto and will take it to his shop for install-- with the G50 trans, worried about going over the 2" tolerance for engine removal and creating more expense...

I had the same problem as you; the car wouldn't start after getting warm to hot. In my case, it was the starter motor, but I also had the ground strap replaced only because it aids with the current flow as well as after over twenty years, the straps become somewhat frayed.

good idea... will order a ground strap from Pelican and do both upgrades... going through the starter troubleshooting tech article and will test the grounding before/after with voltmeter...

Check the DME relay under the driver's seat.

Will do.. thanks Zoanas!
How do you like the Hella's over the stock fogs?
I might do that upgrade instead of driving lights for better canyon illumination...

They are absolutely DEADLY at night! High speed night driving is worry-free. They throw major light a full mile down the road.
