the clutch cable throw is probably what you want to adjust. there are two locations..the first is at the pedals themselves and is the harder to access. the most common and easier adjustment site on our old 915's is at the tranny end. get under the car and you'll see where the cable leaves the body and travels back to the tranny. you'll see where the cable physically ends. you can either tighten or loosen the adjustment nut. sometimes, over the years, people have lost the original and you may have like two nuts backed up against each other to hold the adjustment (mine). my advice is to try turning the adjustment nut several times and check. you should be able to tell a difference and whether or not you're adjusting in the correct direction. good luck.

By the way, you should have to push the clutch all the way to the floor to disengage. If you can disengage the clutch enough to prevent grinding going into reverse then you have enough clutch travel.

I just went through clutch cable hell! It all started with what should have been a 5 minute adjustment and has turned into full replacement, broken clutch pedal roll pin, and a pedal cluster rebuild with new bronze bushings.
