OK guys, due to Chris's hectic schedule, he asked me to coordinate this month's SOCG run. So here we go...
Based on the number of people who responded to Chris's question of whether we should do a Big Bear run or another Ortega run, it looks like we're going to plan a run up the big mountain (to Big Bear ![]() Right up front I'll remind you guys that this run will take up a big portion of the day due to the distance involved. However, as most of you know, the back way through Redlands is probably one of the best roads to drive anywhere in SoCal, therefore the long day will be more than be offset by the pure pleasure of driving our little Porsches on the type of road they were designed for. I want as many people as possible to make this run. We need people from all over the Southland for this one. The weather is warming up nicely and the roads are clear and dry. This is probably the best time of the year to do this. We can arrange to meet at a Starbucks in the Redlands area and climb the hill from there, if that would be easier for you folks. We need to set a date quickly, so please, respond with dates that would work for you. We'll try to find the date that will work best for the most people. Who's in for this? Scott, I want to go so bad. I spun my 930 and hit a curb. Waiting to take it to TRE to get it fix. We have a 4 month old baby, so I am grounded for a while. Please post some pics. That is a beautiful drive. I am in for sure for a run like that in the fall. Keep us posted.

I'm in...I live 5 minutes from Redlands!!! Pick a weekend and I'm there! Wouldn't miss a chance to see Jack's badass BBII in person...hope you can make it. My Carrera will have new Koni yellows installed on all 4 corners this week, and is getting lowered and corner balanced at Precision Motion next week. Perfect chance to test her out!
Might I add that the roads around Big Bear are awesome and well worth the drive up here? Instead of Starbucks, would you consider a local coffee shop called Grounds For Enjoyment? It's on Orange Street (close to the 30) and in a historical building with plenty of parking in front (read cool Porsche lineup pictures). There's some great restaurants in Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead if we want to grab lunch along the way. I know at least two other local Porsche guys who will want to join us. I will get confirmation when the date is set. Last edited by jkarolyi; 05-02-2006 at 10:23 PM.. |

A Big Bear run sounds like a lot of fun. I should be getting my Carrera back from TRE either tomorrow or the next day after having it aligned, lowered, and balanced. It will be my first chance to test out the new goodies I installed (Bilstein Sports) and the old goodies I took out (interior & A/C).

I'll suggest June 3 or 4, since I'm not available for any of the weekends in May. Sounds like fun!

(I like June too - it gives me more time to sort my steering issues.)

If its in June there can be a slight chance I'll finish my car in time for the run. You know, if all the planets are aligned.

So I gather that later in the month or maybe early next month would be best. As for me, any time this month will work but I am going to be gone the first week of June, so if we do June, I'd prefer mid to late month.
Richard, you can't get any weekends off this month? Who wants to offer up suggestions for where we stop to eat? |

I'm new here but a run to BB sounds great. Just got the car back from several months with Henry at Supertec. I'd love to stretch its legs on a run up the mountain.
