89 3rd Brake Light & Alarm

I am just finishing off my '89 cab restoration. Tonight I connected the third brake light and then re-connected the battery. For some unknown reason the third brake light flashed for about a minute or so then shut off.

Is this part of the alarm? What would cause this?

How was the 3rd light connected? OEM harness or spliced in?

It is connected to the OEM harness I believe. It is on a three pronged connector at the rear window. The connector is like the one in the door, a watertight connector. The wire for the trunk light also runs with the brake light wire.

Damn, that is strange?

According to Bentley Guide, the 3rd light's ground is connected to the Engine Lid Light, is that what you meant?

If so, does the lid light work? I am thinking maybe it is a bad ground or an out bulb.

Turn on your lights or just running lights and then check to see it the lid light comes on and off when you operate the assembly.

Just a thought.

You know this ,your 3rd Brake light should have Brown Ground, Black Blue 12 Volt Source and Black Yellow BLS switch

Or I would DVM test the harness coming out of the car, checking each lead.

Sorry can't be more helpfull.
