JON,

I'm fluent in German...

In case you want to know....That silver Cayman....has the current 911 motor transplanted in it.....The dude is saying that it is puuurrrfffeeecccttt

He also states that both versions of the Cayman (911 motor and stock) are the ultimate drift machines......

Man I want one soooobad.

Thanks for the translation--I was guessing his comments were positive based on his body language while driving. The hot rodded Cayman's really look nice.

Watching that video brought to mind that the Cayman/Boxster is really the "Sports car" in the Porsche range, while the 911 is the more practical "GT". The "GT" idea implies room for more then 2 (in an emergancy) as well as room for luggage and stuff for a trip. For comparison, the Ferrari 2+2's, AM's and Jag Coupes are also "GTs". It reminds me of the early 70's when the 911 raced in (and cleaned up) in the sedan classes against things like 2002's, Escorts, Capri's and other cars with similar engine sizes, while at the same time racing and beating "Sports Cars" too!

The more I see of the Cayman, the more I like it and think that it looks like an ideal sportscar. (Alas, if I had the cash to buy one!) But it also highlights how wonderful of "compromise" the 911 is. You'd never see a Ferrari 2+2, nor an AM or Jag Coupe successfully navigate an Auto-X or trials course like a 911 (see the recently posted videos). To be honest, when they've met on the track, (Speed GT, ALMS) the other cars have had a hard time keeping up with the 911's.

The 911 truely is the car that blends the usefulness of a GT with the performance of a sports-car. As they say, "Nothing else even comes close!"

Just picked up a Cayman for my daily driver. It really is a wonderful car . . . but when Sunday comes along, there's nothing like a 911 Cab.

Don't forget, back in 1948 Porsche was considering a mid engined layout for their first car, but because of packaging and economic reasons (including the use of existing VW components) the rear engined layout was chosen. Imagine how things would be if the 911 were mid engined and had all these years of development behind it in that configuration.

I had the opportunity to drive the Cayman S last month. VERY, very nice car. It is filled to the top with creature comforts, but very nice. Lots of room under the front and back lids, oh and did I mention it's fast? While I think it's slower than the turbo, it's just by the blink of your eye.

I don't think their spelling of the car's name is the biggest problem:

"A beautiful creation from Techart, this new Teckart Porsche Caymen looks and performs iwth authority."

I really, really want to like the Cayman, but I just can't bring myself to buy a sports car that has almost no visible topside access to the engine. Even the 914's engine was viewable from above. I had a early Boxster I really liked, and this is one of the reasons I got rid of it and went back to a 911. But on the other hand, none of the wasserboxers aside from the GT3 are being marketed to real enthusiasts.

Maybe I really need to drive one of these things.
I sat in one for some time trying to get a feel for it and was left with a "so-so" attitude over the whole thing.

I test drove one a couple months ago and thought it to be underpowered; but it did handle exceptionally well.

It is still on my short list...

Most cars, with the exception of the Ferrari, are uninspiring when you just sit in them. You're right. You need to go out and drive one. Then judge it.

People that have never driven an old 911 but who may have sat in one once are usually completely underwhelmed by it. They usually change their tune after driving one however.

"His" opinion is:

The engine of the Techart (310hp) is a little diappointing, the Wendland is best choise for tuning the stock engine. Much more better punch at 4.000 rpm

Best of two world is the 9ff with the 911S (380 hp) engine. But cost about t€ 30.

Standard cayman suspension is goodenough and hard to top.

Was anyone else amazed at how relaxed he was drifting cars he'd never been in before through those corners in the rain?
