pushing speedo cable thru trans tunnel

I'm preparing for an engine drop on my 3.2L...there's a rubber grommet that surrounds the speedo (sensor) cables in the transmission tunnel. I know the cables have to be pushed thru before the drop. The little plastic covers on the speedo wires won't fit through the hole with the grommet...Should I just push the entire grommet/plug w/ the wires thru the hole? Cut the grommet etc...? Seems like a cheap part to replace... mostly concerned with preserving the wires and plastic covers. Any ideas...

Take a flat blade screwdriver and pry out the grommet. Remove the entire assembly. It's easy to pry the grommet back in.

why dont you just disconnect the sensor leads from the tranny then you can just leave the gromet and wire where it is - I wish I'd done that cos the grommet is a bear to get back in.
