Bride of Papa Smurf(The restoration)

Less than 24 hours after the wifes new Targa came to rest in my (monster) garage disassembly has begun. All the bolts and screws were seized and corroded. I used a half a can of PB Blaster and a torch and still had to cut most of them off. A couple of the small bolts just twisted right off. My parts needed list is growing rapidly. I hope to have the car completely stripped by Monday morning.

Kevin,
About that bumper....Mine isn't in bad shape but I broke or had to cut the head off almost every bolt holding the valance on. I may be time ahead to use your bumper. How much?

Thats more than I want to tackle right now. In a few years we plan on doing the Cab conversion though. How is the backdating going for you? Did Jim pick out your paint color yet?

This thread will be on the front page for months if I have to keep it there all by myself!

Kevin (KTL),
Do you ever get over to EuroEast? Jerry is delivering some parts to me in a couple weeks.

Shawn,

I might get over there if Jerry gets me a set of Hankook tires. I'll check with him on that front.

Otherwise, i'll drop it off to you when I go to Gingerman in August.

I imagine I can cook up a box to mail it to you. No big deal.

BTW, it came off a 84 Carrera. So I dunno if the bumper pad holes are different. Shouldn't matter though. Because if you put those bumper pads back on there? You and me are gonna have a problem...........

I may be heading over the Chi town area in a week or so to have MotoDelta do the corner balance and alignment after I lower the rear and also to MotoMotions to have some Soukmagic done with the his LM1.

I could do the long ride back home through Warsaw... .

By the way, seats were dropped off today, and a few more parts trickled in...they are headed your way.

If all else fails, I have a good rear bumper painted Papa Smurf Fuch Blue if you want it...no charge for Bec. I also have the moonstone-esque vinyl coming~

Kev, good news on the kooks...I'll call you this weekend.

That would work Jerry. I have a list of rear bumper parts I need now. I will e-mail it to you.

As far as the rear bumper removal think of the seat install incident X 10!
I actually put the giant phillips screw driver on the jack, jacked it up into the screw, lifted the car slightly, put vise grips on the screwdriver, and turned it until the car rose up as the screwdriver jumped the slots! My next thought was the torch.....let's just say bolt stayed in and leave it at that...... So out came the dremel and cut off wheel. It was to the point that the valance was coming off if i had to grind the entire bumper off the valance!!!
