Seems pretty cheap if your wheel is really screwed up.

yeah, my impression is that when the wheel gets into that kind of shape, it's never right again..

Newbie chiming in here...When you get into "missing" metal, its all down to the repairer and the welding ability. Several of the larger wheel remanufacturers use this repair process and then turn the wheel on a lathe which removes some additional material from the face. It really depends on the popularity of the wheel. If its a newer wheel or just not a popular wheel then repairing lip damage may be the only option. Anything beyond the lip and into the structural core should be considered not repairable. With just minor curb rash, you lose a small amount of material and get a nice cosmetic repair. I have seen instances where wheels have had to much material removed or just not had enough to keep the outer lip of the wheels initial strength intact...thus rendering the wheel unusable. Several manufacturers are against this repair process...but it has done wonders to the new replacement market pricing. Wheels that were $300-$500 can be generally repaired or exchanged out for $129 and come backed with a warranty. The Insurance industry has taken notice and this process is appearing on more and more damage estimates everyday. Obviously once this process is applied, you can never go back...hope this helped answer or shed light on the question
