Bursch Header / muffler/ heat exchanger ?
This 71 T I'm checking out in Fla. has been upgraded with a Bursch Header & muffler system. Nice improvement in power I'm sure, but there are no pipes for th heat exchanger so the CO does not have them installed. Being from the North East, I will be needing to get heat up into the cabin.
What to do? joe |

The point SoCal911SC is making is that Bursch headers etc are not exactly an upgrade. Bursch bits also rot.
Generally accepted that original headers / heat exchangers are all but unbeatable for good power + function. SSIs an upgrade - pretty much same as original (I think), just stainless. |

So if he has the original heat exchangers, I should make sure theyre included. Then look for a new exhaust setup. I imagine that includes muffler and what else?
how much should Iask for price to be reduced in this situation? ![]() joe |

Is the car running MFi or carbs? If it's running MFi you may have some problems when the car is in a cold climate with the Bursch headers. May run a little (or a lot) lean, especially at startup. The MFi system needs the original heat exchangers (left hand side unit at least), the 2 units are connected via a hose which helps regulates the mix, particularly at start-up. Sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong...
The owner would not have had so much of a problem in FL where it is generally warm year round. He may even be unaware of the issue. |

Is the exhaust unit Bursch or OE?
You will need exchangers if you want heat - a new pair of SSIs will run you best part of $1000 and you'll still need the exhaust itself. Have you had the car PPI'd? |

I have the same set up on my 72 t. If it has mfi, figure you need to drop a grand on some SSIs for sure. As noted above, you need heat exchangers to work the cold start mech. My understanding is the normal position is set to rich. Once heated up, it leans it out. So.....w/o the heat exchangers, your car will have to be set at some bogus compromise which will probably be too rich....like mine.
If it's carbs, no defroster is the biggest loss with headers imo. |

I have had great experience with Bursch products. They sound great and last a long time. I took my last set off at 15 years not because they rotted I just wanted a different sound. If I were you I would just get a set of early heat exchangers if you need heat.

I'm not sure if the the arrangement has Bursch exhaust. I'll have to ask.
In any event, I'll need to acquire some heat Exhausters if my lady is going to be cozy in the cabin. The car is running zeniths from what I'm told. joe |
