can't search archives, show me a painted decklid grille

I couldn't search the archives. It only goes to catalouge selections. Has anyone painted their dull decklid grill in either semi gloss or gloss, body color, radical treatment?

Any help and photos appreciated.

using the "search" button on Top/Right?....works better than the text field location on bottom/right....

I repainted mine a semi-gloss back (BBQ black) as well as the oil lines, and wiper arms. The oil lines and wiper arms are indistinguishable from new and the grill looks great for not being annodized. None of them are worthy of a pic since all of it looks pretty bone stock.

But the search function at the bottom should search the forum... and DOESN'T. Just get odd ball stuff from the catalog.

You have to click the "Search" button just below the Order Status link in the upper right corner of your screen.

Ok... I see. However, the lower right box says "search this forum"?

I did mine this fall. Painted with black semi-gloss enamel. Looks great. I'll take a picture and post later tonight. It makes a huge difference. You'll be happy you did.

Here is a picture of the painted grill.

The picture is a little dark, but I think you can see how the surface is nice and even satin black. It looks really nice in daylight

That's the look I want! Excellent. Was it from a spray can?

Yes, humble satin black in a can. Indoor/Outdoor enamel.

Rustoleum or Krylon, can't remember which one, I tossed the can a while back.

Did you remove the grill to paint it or did you use a huge amount of tape and paper to avoid overspray? If it was removed, how difficult is that and did you have to remove the a/c components from the underside of the decklid?

Rustoleum Satin Black aerosol (p/n 7777) works great for this.

Remove the grill. By the way I use the foamy formula 2000 tire spray on my grill and it comes out nice. Anyways... if you are going to paint it I would recommend removing it and cleaning it really good to ensure there is no wax or other build up, otherwise you paint will start flaking off. Also I would recommend a special bumper and trim paint as the plastic parts shrink and expand depending on the heat and exposure to sunlight.

Definitely remove the grill or your next post will be 'removing black paint from engine compartment?"

Repaint it - no problem - use semigloss or satin black.

Definitly remove the grill. Much easier to clean. I don't think you could mask it in place.

You don't have to "remove" the condensor. But you do have to unbolt it from the lid to gain access to the nuts.
