Question Windshield claim from Insurance? Rate increase? Anyone experience?

After a nice Sunday drive this pass weekend, it ended with a crack windshield stem from a dump truck carrying sand rocks.... I should have gotten the phone number or tag from the company... but, I was too shock at that time to think straight.

Here lays the dilemma, I know windshield replacement is cover 100% from insurance companies....

Have anyone claim a broken windshield only to have your rate increase, or worst yet, policy cancel?

Porsche dealer wanted north of $600 plus labor to replace the windshield...

TIA

Jason

In my part of the world windshield damage is covered under comprehensive, not collision. There is a different deductible for this type of claim and it doesn't affect your overall rates. However, I have an aquaintance who, after 3 windshields in 4 years, was denied windshield coverage afterward. Up here they put "sand" on the roads in the winter that you could use in a slingshot, so rock chips and windshield breaks are the norm. There is no penalty for asking your insurance co. about it, if they say your rates will go up and it's not worth it don't make the claim. They would never cancel a policy because of a windshield claim.

I replaced the windshield on my car because of pitting and didn't have a problem with my rates.

afaik it's more of a safety issue and they don't increase rates around here. Windshield damage is routine on 911's.

Actually the installer better know about 911 installs or you'll be better to learn how to do it yourself imo. If they screw up the molding it'll cost you. They'll say don't worry about it.

I have Hagerty, a stone was thrown up by a truck and cracked my windshield about 3 yrs ago. They payed out on a windshield from Porsche and install, about $900.

They never said a peep, no increase, and were very appologetic for the loss.

Call your insurer or agent, and ask them.

I have Farmers Insurance and they are known for being tight with cash. I filed a claim due to pitting on our Mitsubishi Montero and a crack on my 82' 911 on the same day. No increase in premium and no questions.
I have 100% glass coverage on my comprehensive.

The claim will not be a collision claim, but a comprehensive claim. This will not affect your rates like a claim for an accident.

Cheers!

I have American Modern Home through Leland-West and made a glass claim last year. I have a $500 deductibles on windshield replacement (not by choice), but by using Leland-West's recommended vendor I had my deductibles waived. Leland-West's CSR even contacted the glass company and set up the appointment. Oh yeah, glass is covered under comprehensive on my policy as well.

Same with allstate - $1300 replacement, no premium increase, they even did it after the fact as I hadn't known I had glass insurance at the time I got it replaced.

Interesting note- when in college I had a windshield replaced out of state and the replacement place tried to screw my insur co. -charging them 2500.00 for a 8 yr old pathfinder winshield!- my insur co paid I think 1500 or so, and then told them to screw for the difference!- took me 5 yrs to get their claim off my credit report! -this happened only because it was an out of state place, so long as you use a qualified place in state you are fine- IE no charge in MA.

Never a problem. Odd Story - I had a leased Infiniti a while back and had gotten a chip in the windshield. Insurance company paid to fix it without a deductible, when I wne to return the car at the end of the lease the dealer wanted the windshielf replaced. I called 21 Century and they did even blink, they replaced the windshield and charged me my deductible. No rate increase after either.
