You all are fortunate to have that track being built in your backyard, it looks like it will be a bomb course. Pardon the pun. I guess I will have to be taking a trip to Tennessee. If they build it we will come!

See you in the not to distant future,
Eddy

Build it and I will come for sure. I grew up in Kingsport and drive through there pretty often anyway...

That looks like a pretty high-speed straightaway by the big river! What's the lap distance? BTW, my uncle worked down there as part of the Manhattan Project; they didn't actually build the bomb there, they developed the method of enriching the plutonium - gaseous diffusion of uranium hexaflouride. Cool track!

Great news and good for you guys.
Let me tell you that when that opens you guys are going to have a ball with the p-cars. Here in Birmingham, sportscar-fun history split to before and after the Barber Motorsports Track...
When will it be completed? Pass the word around for the first DE, we'll be there.

WOW! 3.7 miles, 34 turns – The Western Hemisphere’s version of the 3.2 mi F1 Nurburgring but thankfully not the 20.832 kM (13 mi) Nordschleife.

What is the proposed completion date?
What is the funding?
Is this leased DOE land or has it all been turned over to the new municipality?

Too bad we didn’t do this with the Rocky Mountain Arsenal (chemical weapons facility); “Thousand Chemicals Motor Sports Park.” Coming out of Chlorine Corner there could be GB Turn and TX Turn. Viewing can be from POW Hill and Mustard Gas Mountain

Could Napalm be used as fuel? A fast lap would be Incendiary.
Instead of a Kink we could have a DIMP, which has a better ring than diisopropylmethylphosphonate.

It was reported that the Arsenal had enough GB nerve gas to “kill every man, woman and child on earth.”

Of course Thousand Suns gives new meaning to the “pits” with the Plutonium hot Pits. We can “yield” great lap times through Critical Corner and Trigger Turn. There could be Los Alamos Loop and Livermore Loop. A “hot” Lawrence lap would include crossing Rocky Flats. The track medical center could be the Super-Critical care unit. Viewing could be from the Trinity Site with lunch at the Manhattan deli. Perhaps Kerr McGee could be a sponsor of a Karen Silkwood Memorial turn but that might produce a reaction.

Enough of this. Docs gave me silly meds this morning.

Best,
Grady

Okay, after searching the website I found this.
It looks like it will be a while.

Fast Visions of Tennessee is developing plans to begin construction of a 3.7 mile roadracing facility in 2009 that will be a cornerstone venue at the Heritage Center. Plans call for a combination of slow and high speed curves, and a back stretch of 4,400 feet that will see 200 mph speeds.

SWEET!

Geez, almost a mile long back straight!

But it does say that portions of it can be used for car clubs and such, so DEs probably wont get to use the full track.

If Jester's info is correct...I might even have my "perpetual project" finished by then. Wonder if they'll offer an AARP discount.

Thumbs up

Yea, I have a few buds that have confirmed the clean up contracts are over in 2k9.

Hell! We have been waiting this long what is a few more years.
I have also confirmed that the backers have the $$$ to do it.
One of the principles is a Cally millionaire that moved to Cookville, TN.

Grady:
The land dose belong to the DOE and will be leased for 99 years.
The thousand suns refers to an A bomb.
One of the old sayings that an A bomb was as bright as a 1000 suns.
Hey Man CO. just got a new track, so it's our turn.

I think it ought to be called Thunder Road since its only about 5 miles from the real Thunder Road. Of moonshiner fame.

Years ago I worked at ORNL and I have been all over the K25 plant.
That big building that there tarring down is one of the top 5 biggest ones in the world to date. It was the biggest till just a few years ago. You could put a 2.5 mile road coarse inside it.
It's over welliming in size.

I was born and raised in Oak Ridge and I can't think of a better way to use this old A Bomb factory.

SO! Yep you guys have about 4 or 5 more years to build ya a car for it. Let me know if I can build it for ya.

Coool I used to live in Oak Ridge in High school.

I used to swin in the flooded gravel pits there near K25 and get chased out by DOE security.

The DOE used to dispose of low level rad waste in those gravel pits and that they had weird fish in them (mulitiple eyes, weird fins, etc.) no not heresay, stuff that I saw back in 1968-72.
