EGT Install
I seem to remember that you should install an thermocouple 6" from the valve which would give you a temp of 1450 F if you have a good mixture.
Please let me know if this is right or what should it be, thanks for the help ![]() Thom

EGT #'s are thrown around as probe being 1" from head.
General #'s are that each additional inch drops the EGT # 100deg F. My EGT at a steady pedal in 4th or 5th gear is around 1,300F where probe is in center of SSI flange to heat exchanger or about 1.5". The further away from the head the longer the probe will last. I would guess that 1,450F is right on the edge. If you're looking for that edge install a CHT gauge also. Analog gauges are not the best with EGT readings but much better than none at all. Grady Clay posted some very good sites for gauges and engine tracking over a year ago.
