Question Looking at nice SC, advice please?

I found an '83 SC in the midwest that looks to be in very nice condition. It has 84k miles and has been sitting a little for the last two years according to the owner. He says it runs great and the only thing he's done is change the oil. I have two questions of concern:

I noticed that the car doesn't have the front fog lamps, and I don't think they originally came with the car. Would it be difficult to find and put on OEM fog lights where there were none??

One more thing is that the driver seat has those long vertical cracks on the seat that expose a light grey color. Is this easy to hide or restore? The cracks are not open cracks.

Thanks so much if you can help!

Kurt

Don't take this the wrong way, but your questions are not exactly deal makers or breakers, IMHO, unless you looking for bargaining leverage.
Has it already passed a PPI? These cars are so expensive to fix mechanically, it seems to me that most things cosmetic are less critical. If the seat or pedals show heavy wear, I would carfax or double check mileage on receipts.

Hi Terry. Thanks for your reply! I intend on getting a PPI. The pedals look pretty unworn and the car doesn't smoke.

Have a PPI done, see if it has hydraulic tensioners or collar stops and check the head studs. Those are the main things on the SC.

You might be able to fix the seats with the crack filler/repair product offered by LEATHERIQUE.

If you want factory fogs you will need to change the valance out to a later Carrera valance with the cutouts for the fogs. Or go aftermarket.

You must have a lot of fog where you live.

Kurt,

You're actually looking at a car with seats that have some wear & tear

I would not worry about the cracks in the seat. It's usually the result of age and the elements.

I would be more concerned about the mechanicals and the paint condition.

Good luck

Don't forget that you can do a carfax on an '83. As everybody said, seats and fogs are no big deal. Seats from a variety of years are easily retrofit to an SC. Think of it as an opportunity to hunt for some sport seats.

Hetmann- The only fog around here is in my head! I like the look of them. Makes the car look finished unlike later year bubble cars

SoCal- That's great to hear! I didn't want the car if I couldn't do this. I'm such a slave to looks! Thanks for your expertise.

John- Agreed, but the paint is supposedly pretty nice original. The mechanicals are a different story. If I get that far lets see what the PPI uncovers. Thanks again

Anthony- Yes, indeedy!

Kurt

the fog lights are a joke. If you've really got to have them I've got a pair I'll give to you...just pay shipping.
