CT Emissions screwup and my turbo system :(

Well, I timed the install of my proto stage 1 turbo to get two years before I have to swap it off or create a cat/muffler mongrel. Stupid Agbar technologies and the nasty emissions screw-up (http://www.nbc30.com/automotive/2562270/detail.html) caused me to incur an extra test this year, rather than skip-a-year due to the prior owner of the car not getting a test! Arrgghh.

Now, I have a month to get the car smoggable, which either involves removing my turbo Jpipe and getting the cat back on, or building a post turbo cat system. The car runs pretty rich, so I am sure I'm in for some trouble, I may need to swap the chip back too. Bah.

Anyone know a testing station in CT that also works on Porsches?

Call Chris Musante at Musante motorsport in South Windsor. Perhaps he can steer you in the right direction.

There is a test station next to Musante, don't know how P-car friendly they are. I did take a turbo'd Nissan (that used to be non turbo) there for testing and it passed. That car did have a cat.

My Euro 911 sans cat passed at the Midas station in Canton.

search on Sammy. He just installed a wide band O2 sensor, replacing his old O2 sensor and his turbo ran very clean. It was clean enough to pass in California. I don't know whether he has a cat or not. Maybe that info will help. It helped his rich problem, it sounds like.

Yeah, CIS will allow you to lean things out, Protomotive disables the O2 sensor, so I'm in for some trouble. I will probably have to swap the old chip too.

Thanks all for the tips, I'll call Chris if I fail I guess.

Proto does NOT disable the O2 sensor, got that direct from Todd. They suggest you don't use it,as they feel that it doesn't add anything given that it only functions below 3k and at part throttle, but its mapped on the chip.

There are some cheapish cat solutions out there-ie Dynomax, or even a Dynatech knock off -on ebay for well under 100 bucks.

My Protosport exhaust was originally set up w/ some sort of a cat-the pipe exiting the turbo goes back to the stock muffler intlet location but turns there rather than entering the muffler-it then goes over to the passenger side, does a 180 and comes back to outlet on the drivers side. It has a tiny Flowmaster Deltaforce just before the tip-obnoxiously loud. I cut the pipe going from drivers to passenger's side and added a 18in resonator/prefmuffler there and used large ss clamps thinking that I may need to put a temp cat in come inspection time here.

Thanks Greg. I think Todd oversimplified it for me then. Had I known it was still active, I may have made a place to screw it back in.

I do intend to make a frankenmuffler, with a $80.00 cat and small muffler. Nice to know I can just weld in a bung and make an extenstion and get O2 as well.
