rust on early heat exchangers

after cleaning up a set of early heat exchangers there are a couple of dime sized holes in the outer skin, headers are fine, will this create a problem?I'll get a set of SSIs eventually but wanted to see the difference on a 2.7 for the season, really I am just being cheap as they were on a parts car that I bought and I wanted to try them. Thanks,Marty

Not a problem, but how do you know the headers are fine without stripping off the shrouding? I would just not hook up the heating circuit if you want to test them--just in case there are pinholes in the headers or something that could pump CO into the cabin thru the heater. Or just go ahead and strip the shrouding off them and use the bare headers--they are a lot easier to mount and unmount when you can get at all the nuts easily.
