Remove Differential while in Car?
I'm going to try and remove the differential* with the transmission still in the car.
Who has done this and what do I need to watch out for? For example, will I be able to get the differential out with the heat exchanger there (it's an SSI)? Or am I going to have to remove the heat exchanger too? Thanks! * It's a 1971 type 911 transmission and I need to do the simplified differential fix before it blows itself up. |
Randy, I have to ask why? I can't see you saving any time doing it this way and it seems it would be a lot easier to work on the tranny with it sitting on your workbench then under the car.

it's a hell of a lot easier if I don't have to pull the entire engine & trans.

we seem to have reached a difference of opinion..what they call an 'impasse'..two immovable schools of thought, passing like great ships in the night.. ;)

easy. axles disconnected from flanges and tied out of the way, flanges off, side cover off, and watch your feet.

Thanks, John. I don't have access to a lift anymore so I'll be in a bench-press position...
