Making your own bonded duck tail

Just picked up a used duck, it fits pretty good but it is never going to fit as well as the stock lid does so now I am considering cutting it up and bonding the required piece to my stock lid. I know you can buy ones like this, but has anyone done it themselves? How did it turn out and did you have any issues with the bond cracking over time?
